Investigation and Evaluation of Geothermal Resources of Taihang Arch Fault Cluster Based on the Magnetotelluric Exploration

    • The geological structure of the concave-convex pattern of the Taihang Arch Fault Cluster from south to north controls the distribution of the stratum, geothermal field and ground convection. The fault plays an important controlling role in the vertical conduction of deep geothermal heat and the formation of geothermal resources. The thick unconsolidated sedimentary layer on the crystalline substrate, the developed thermal reservoir, and the stable cap layer constitute good environment for geothermal resources. The regional magnetotelluric exploration work was carried out to evaluate the prospect of deep geothermal resources in the Taihang Arch Fault Cluster. It obtained an electrical structural model shallower than 5km in the study area through the calculation and analysis of magnetotelluric data dimensionality, structural trend, Bostick 1D inversion and 2D inversion. Based on the previous achievements, the formation and fault distribution of the study area were interpreted and the geophysical characteristics of shallow geotherm within 5 km were evaluated. Four geothermal resource prospects were predicted, which can be the key blocks for the future exploration and deployment of geothermal resources and can also provide basic information for the planning and utilization of geothermal resources in the study area.
