Abstract
Several ophiolite melange belts have been found in Muztag area of East Kunlun, Xinjiang, and Yantoushan-Pingzhangling ophiolitic melange belt is about 100 km northeast of Muztag peak. Based on the study of radiolarian siliceous rocks in Yantoushan-Pingzhangling ophiolite melange belt, the age is determined to be late Devonian to early Carboniferous. Combined with the geological and petrogeochemical characteristics of the melange, the authors propose that the Yantoushan-Pingzhangling Ophiolitic melange was initially formed in a small ocean basin with the characteristics of back arc basin. To a certain extent, it can be classified as the northern Muztag Ophiolite melange belt. Together with the remaining ophiolites in Subash in the west and Animaqing in the East, they constitute the Kangxiwa-Muztag-Animaqing structural belt, which is equivalent to the fourth suture zone of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau.
