Abstract
The coal-bearing strata of Yaojie coalfield belong to middle Jurassic Yaojie formation, which contains abundant coal resources. Due to years of exploration, the coal resources is about to be exhausted, the issue of follow-up resource is a top priority. Through reviewing the characteristics of the main coal-controlling structure(F19 fault) and coal measures stratigraphic sequence, the authors inferred that the F19 fault is a syndepositional fault that controls the coal bearing, and predicted that the mineable coal seams lie in the east part of the F19 fault. Based on analysis of sedimentary characteristics, coal-accumulating patterns and coal-controlling factors of the Yaojie coalfield, it is considered that the study area and Yaojie coalfield should be in an identical intermontane coal accumulation depression. The coal-forming environment belongs to fluvial, lacustrine and swamp facies, the lithofacies cycle led off with fluvial facies and end up with pan-lacustrine facies. Located in middle upper part of the cycle, the coal seams have good resource potential with large thicknesses and good coal-bearing property. According to known geological conditions and previous geological works, this paper proposed that the east part of the coalfield like Shanmachi and Yangwa are favorable regions of coal prospecting.
