High Resolution Paleoenvironmental Evolution Revealed by a Lacustrine Sediment Sequence in Shuangchi Maar Lake during Past 2000 Years in North Hainan Island

    • This study presents the record of paleoenvironmental evolution results from a radiocarbon-dated 565-cm-long lacustrine sediment sequence in Shuangchi Maar Lake. Measurements of grain size, magnetic susceptibility (MS), water content, dry density and color reflectance values have been carried out for reconstructing the climate since~2 007 cal a BP. Five distinct stages can be identified as follows. 2 007-1 413 cal a BP, the hot-humid climate was dominated this area and the lake level was shallow. The interval from 1 413-974 cal a BP was characterized by a relatively high lake level and mild climate. 974-468 cal a BP, it was a relatively humid climate with strong human activities. 468-184 cal a BP,this stage had the decreasing precipitation with increasing human activities. since 184 cal a BP, the climate was mild and the water depth was continuously reducing during this period. Relatively dryer MWP(750-1 250 AD) and wetter LIA(1 250-1 750 AD) could be detected in this sequence, which are consistent with the records of the lakes in South China.
