Northwestern Geology (short for NWG) is in the charge of the China Geological Survey and sponsored by the Xi’an Center of China Geological Survey and the Geological Society of China, which is an academic journal of geology published by Science Press at home and abroad.
NWG was founded in 1964 under the name "Northwest Geological Science and Technology Information", and was renamed Northwestern Geology in 1980; Bulletin of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Series X edited by the Xi’an Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources (the predecessor of Xi’an Center of China Geological Survey) was founded in 1980 and was renamed "Northwest Geological Science" in 1992; In 2001, Northwestern Geology and Bulletin of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Series X were integrated into one journal and was renamed as Northwestern Geology. The integrated Northwestern Geology is an international 16-format (quarterly) journal, which is fully in line with international standards in terms of journal arrangement standards and printing quality.
NWG mainly reports the fundamental, prospective and innovative research results in in geological science and related fields, focusing on hot issues and marginal disciplines in the field of geology. The published content covers basic geology, mineral geology, energy geology, hydrology geology, engineering geology, environmental geology, ecological geology, geological disasters, urban geology, remote sensing geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geological big data analysis and other research results.
NWG exchanges with many domestic geological units, and has exchange relationships with 58 foreign regions and units. The publications exchanged mainly include: Monthly Report of the Geological Survey of Japan, Professional Papers of the United States Geological Survey, Australian Museum (data), Canadian Geological Survey (data), Ophiolite (Italy), Tokyo National Science Museum (data), German University and Federal Institute (natural resources and development), etc. Northwestern Geology plays its due role in disseminating scientific and technological information, promoting academic exchanges, and promoting the development of geosciences.
