Abstract:
Based on the experience from implementing the demonstration project for detailed geo-hazard survey in the Baota district, Yan'an, this paper provides a summary of the methodology and techniques suitable for detailed geo-hazard survey. The results of the demonstration project indicate that a detailed geo-hazard survey can be approached from eight aspects, i.e., type of geo-hazard, evolutionary characteristics, spatial and temporal distribution, formation conditions and triggering factors, zonation of geo-hazard,susceptibility,risk zonation, climate warning zonation and shelter sites for emergency. It is concluded that a key to the success of a survey project is project planning, organization and implementation. It is also essential to cooperate with local governments to build networks of volun teers to monitor and prevent potential geo-hazards.Further more a detailed geo-hazard survey is heavily dependent on new technologies and new methods. Finally,a detailed survey provides a solid basis for risk analysis and climate warning systems. The technical approach and methodology used in this pilot survey are fea sible and ready for application to detailed survey of land slides in high risk zones in other parts of China.
